Q & A

Qu. 1. Which type of shoes should I wear?

Ans: This is a very important question, because you should wear flat bottom trainers, tennis shoes, or plimsolls. Please DO NOT wear astro turf trainers with the protruding studs or pimples which you will slip on. Astro-turf trainers also damage the court surface.

Qu. 2. Is there a joining fee?

Ans: No.

Qu. 3. Is there a membership fee at PHTA?

Ans: No. Everyone is automatically a member, as we operate the academy on a turn up and play or be coached basis.

Qu. 4. How do I book a tennis court for my own private game?

Ans: To book before arriving, telephone 01622 751804. Let the telephone ring for a while, and book with the groundsman who will answer or leave your telephone number for a reply. Or you may just turn up and walk onto a vacant court, checking with the groundsman who operates from the office on the right-hand side of the sports/bowls pavillion that the court is not already booked.

Qu. 5. How do I book a tennis lesson?

Ans: Telephone 01622 735797 or go to the 'contact us' page on this website for more information, from where you can send an email to a coach.

Qu. 6. Do I need to bring a tennis racquet or tennis balls for coaching?

Ans: No, all equipment is provided, but do bring your own racquet if you have one.

Qu. 7. Your tennis coaching seems very different to other coaching in this country?

Ans: Yes it is. Our coaching is very technical in the early stages, and we use a unique system only known by PHTA coaches which guarantees you will learn the technical side of the game very easily, quickly and thoroughly. Juniors and adults are also taught in the same way. We do not 'give up' on more mature players, still ensuring your basic strokes and grips are correct.

Qu 8. How much does coaching cost?

Ans: You will be surprised at how little coaching can cost. From less than £5 an hour on some junior holiday courses.
